All About Volunteering
Join us in making a difference with the Micah Ministry! We're excited to have you on board! If you're a new volunteer or haven’t filled out the New Volunteer Form yet, please complete it to get started. Even if you've used the jotform in the past, we want to ensure your name is in our new system! For our amazing returning volunteers who are already in the system, simply fill out the Returning Volunteer Form to continue your journey with us. And for groups don’t worry—your form is on the way! In the meantime, just shoot us an email at office@intersectkc.org to get your group signed up to volunteer. We can't wait to work together!
Before Volunteering, please take a look at the resources below. These resources are important for understanding what we mean when we say, "Welcoming and Serving All"!
MICAH MONDAYS
Closed Memorial Day, Fourth of July, & Labor Day
Here’s how you can help on Mondays with opportunities starting as early as 3:30 PM-5:00 PM as well as from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Sign up for one or both!
-
3:30 PM-5:00 PM: Volunteers help with whatever is needed to be ready for that evening’s meal service and clothes closet. You may be asked to help with one or more tasks including: Package desserts, typically cookies from Crumbl. Prepare the Fellowship Hall by ensuring all tablecloths are cleaned, chairs are properly situated, and it’s ready to meet guests. Organize plastic bags to make it easier to package up clothing and personal care items and/or help with clothes donations such as sorting and organizing.
-
5:00 PM-7:00 PM: After an orientation you will be asked to volunteer for a specific role. Once you know your role, you will receive instructions for that role. Roles include: greet guests (inside or outside), direct guests to where they need to go, plate food for our seated guests, assemble and distribute meals-to-go, deliver drinks or meals to guests seated at tables, hand out hygiene items, hand out pet food, clean tables, pick up trash, take out trash, give out clothing to guests, help in the kitchen by doing dishes, drying dishes, or putting away dishes, etc. Most roles require you to be on your feet. For roles that will allow you to sit, please call the office, 816-231-0016.
CLOTHING CLOSET
Volunteer Monday, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM: The Micah Clothes Closet volunteers act as personal shoppers to meet the requests of our guests, the majority being men.
Volunteers provide clothing, shoes, personal care basics and items to support our neighbors such as sheets, blankets, towels, sleeping bags, tents, etc. Every week, we are currently giving over 850 articles of clothing and approximately 300 outdoor living items (sleeping bags, tarps, tents, etc). No paperwork is required. We allow our guest to let us know what are their most urgent needs.
Volunteer on Thursday during 10:00 AM-2:00 PM: Help sort clothing and other donations that we get in throughout the week, as well as prepare for the coming Monday evening Micah Ministry
service. Volunteers stop midway for a lunch break. Many volunteers sit while sorting and/or
organizing.
