MICAH MINISTRY

Life Giving Resources

Creating Connections
Addressing Needs
Providing Resources

The Micah Ministry is the urban, outreach service that is open to all. No paperwork required. With a focus on unmet community needs, especially those of the unhoused and food insecure people in the historic Northeast area of Kansas City, Missouri, it centers around a home-cooked dinner.

From 5:30 PM-7:00 PM every Monday, Micah offers a warm meal, additional food items, pet food, hygiene products, clothing, a free medical clinic from Care Beyond the Boulevard, and items to support those in need such as backpacks, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, etc.

Every week, volunteers currently provide up to 1200 meals, 200-300 rolls of toilet paper, approximately 850 articles of clothing, and around 300 outdoor living items (sleeping bags, tarps, tents, flashlights, etc).

Partnering with Care Beyond the Boulevard, guests receive medical care and case management from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM on Mondays in our large chapel. On Saturdays, the clinic is open from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM.

Other partners like Church of the Resurrection’s FoodMobile and a Mobile Vet also make regular visits on Saturdays.

Mondays have been key in becoming one stop for not only food, clothing and heath needs but also as a place for individuals to get their mail, government assistance applications, and often options to sign up for scholarships, job training, government food assistance (SNAP), identification cards, and voter registration.

A big thank you to all who serve and countless other partners who provide volunteers, sponsor meals, donate goods and/or services, etc. See our full list of partners and sponsors.

MICAH MONDAYS

Closed Memorial Day, Fourth of July, & Labor Day

Here’s how you can help on Mondays with opportunities starting as early as 3:30 PM-5:00 PM as well as from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Sign up for one or both!

Volunteer on Monday

  • 3:30 PM-5:00 PM: Volunteers help with whatever is needed to be ready for that evening’s meal service and clothes closet. You may be asked to help with one or more tasks including: Package desserts, typically cookies from Crumbl. Prepare the Fellowship Hall by ensuring all tablecloths are cleaned, chairs are properly situated, and it’s ready to meet guests. Organize plastic bags to make it easier to package up clothing and personal care items and/or help with clothes donations such as sorting and organizing.

  • 5:00 PM-7:00 PM: After an orientation you will be asked to volunteer for a specific role. Once you know your role, you will receive instructions for that role. Roles include: greet guests (inside or outside), direct guests to where they need to go, plate food for our seated guests, assemble and distribute meals-to-go, deliver drinks or meals to guests seated at tables, hand out hygiene items, hand out pet food, clean tables, pick up trash, take out trash, give out clothing to guests, help in the kitchen by doing dishes, drying dishes, or putting away dishes, etc. Most roles require you to be on your feet. For roles that will allow you to sit, please call the office, 816-231-0016.

CLOTHING CLOSET

Volunteer Monday, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM: The Micah Clothes Closet volunteers act as personal shoppers to meet the requests of our guests, the majority being men.

Volunteers provide clothing, shoes, personal care basics and items to support our neighbors such as sheets, blankets, towels, sleeping bags, tents, etc. Every week, we are currently giving over 850 articles of clothing and approximately 300 outdoor living items (sleeping bags, tarps, tents, etc). No paperwork is required. We allow our guest to let us know what are their most urgent needs.

Volunteer on Thursday during 10:00 AM-2:00 PM: Help sort clothing and other donations that we get in throughout the week, as well as prepare for the coming Monday evening Micah Ministry
service. Volunteers stop midway for a lunch break. Many volunteers sit while sorting and/or
organizing.
